News has been spread that a Malaysian Chinese artist has remixed our national anthem into a sarcastically written song filled with lyrical provocations.
Hoover over to Negarakuku- NameWee for the video..
Fueled with anger, NameWee conquers a new boundary that no other Malaysian has ever dared throttle on before. In the first verse, he takes out our police forces’ bribing ettiquette and tears it apart:
“When the New Year is near, they seem very hardworking,
They will take out their pens but they won’t open the ticket;
Because they are too thirsty, they need to drink tea,
And also some black coffee, want some more sugar?
And if added more sugar, they’d smile more happily to you,
They’d even say TATA when you’re about to leave.”
In the second verse however, the man chews the Muslims’ practices:
“In the early 5 o clock in the morning,
There is a morning call to wake me up;
Sometimes a few sings together,
Just like singing a love song;
Sometimes the voice gets twisted like an R&B song,
Although sometimes, they sing until they get out of key;
Or sometimes they sing until they chock,
Some of their voices sound like a cock but they’re earlier than a cock.”
Now, that was way above the borderline. He has no rights to thread over people’s religions in such a manner and if he had any respect for himself and others, they would not have done that. I’m no Muslim myself but I believe that you don’t just go around poking fun at people’s religions like that.
And next, he stabs our country’s Bumiputra (Malay) rights:
“Please don’t blame the government for only taking care of the bumiputras,
Please don’t blame the government for being unfair to us;
Only this shows that our chinese are not afraid of working,
Only this leads us to find our own way out;
Don’t be surprised by their judgement,
Only this shows that we’re outstanding.”
Those rights may seem unfair but it is an agreement from the beginning of the formation of Malaysia that all races agree to the special rights given to them and we do not complain about it. His failure to comply with that shows how shallow/ignorant/irrational he is. And please do not put Chinese in your songs, it automatically associates the whole race to your… useless course of action.
After the following chorus, he raps another verse about our government:
“Those people inside the government department, they’re even more brilliant,
Whatever they’re doing, they can take it slowly;
Even if those people are queueing up and yelling at them,
They still feel as free as they like;
Sometimes even bringing out their own cakes,
They eat their nyonya cake while you continue queueing;
Even if you really yell at them,
It’ll be alright cuz the security guard is sleeping and he wouldnt care.”
Well, at times I do feel like our customer service could be drastically improved (not implying to our gov. department and as a disclaimer, the only time I’ve been to the gov department was once when I was 12?) however, I doubt they’ll be slowly taking their time when there’s so much chaos going around. I think NameWee is only exaggerating on things due to his pointless anger and frustrations.
As he continues on, he wastes no time and cuts to the practice of the Muslim women of wearing a headscarf:
“They wrap up their heads, slowly crossing the road,
You have to let them cross and be careful when you drive;
Most importantly, to live happily and comfortably,
Don’t be like the chinese, everyday so busy and god damn tiring;
We really admire this kind of attitude,
This is their style, their way of living.”
Well, like he said.. Their style. Therefore, that means that everyone have different styles of living. That guy just finds every single nonsensical value to take out on them Malays.
And finally, he criticises the government for not paying attention to Chinese students who graduate high school with top results and not granting them entry to the local Universities. That is one of the most logical thing the man had said throughout the song. It has even been reported in the local newspapers.
Well, to give him minimal credit, at least he does make a point to state that not everyone will find his song very entertaining. I didn’t for sure. He is a bad image for us Chinese and it is just irrational and immature to go on insulting others’ practices.
